Basic Questions About Parasailing

Are you new to parasailing? Feeling nervous about the prospect of sailing along hundreds of feet in the air? Have no fear; parasailing is a fun and safe activity for anyone ages 6 and up.

Before you enjoy your flight over the crystal clear waters near Catalina Island, here are the answers to some basic questions about parasailing.

What is Parasailing?

Parasailing is a way to glide through the skies comfortably and gently like a bird in flight. You and your travel buddy (or buddies) are clipped to a parachute, which is attached to our boat with a strong piece of tow rope. When you’re ready for your flight, our boat throttles forward and the wind catches the parachute, hoisting you up into the air.

We take a gentle cruise for 8-10 minutes, allowing you to enjoy the views and fresh breezes. When it’s time to bring you back down, we simply reel in the tow rope so that you coast to a soft landing on the deck.

What to Wear for Parasailing

There are no special requirements for what to wear for parasailing, but we recommend something light and comfortable. What you usually wear to the beach is probably fine. If it’s a cooler month, throw on a light jacket, since the air temperature decreases the higher you get. Swimsuits are optional since our flights don’t go in the water.

Do not wear loose articles of clothing that could fall off mid-flight. So no sandals or flip-flops, and if you bring sunglasses, make sure they have a strap.

How High is Parasailing?

FAA regulations limit the height of parasailing flights to 400 feet. If you’re afraid of heights, you can ask the captain to use less tow rope to keep you closer to the water.

What is the Weight Limit for Parasailing?

Our minimum combined weight requirement is 180 pounds, and the maximum combined weight is 450 pounds. These requirements can vary with different wind conditions, and ultimately, the captain will make the call.
